Remembering the 27th of April

Six months and eleven minutes ago, one of the fiercest, most destructive tornadoes many eyes have ever witnessed, touched down in Tuscaloosa. Our city continues to rebound since that day, as we have made unprecedented strides towards restoring some sense of normalcy.

TTown will never be down. Our pride, our dedication, our strength, and our people will always see us through.

Following that day, I have never, ever been so proud to call Tuscaloosa my home.

Please continue to pray for all of those in Alabama affected by the overwhelming number of storms that day, as well as our leaders who carry us along the path of rebuilding.

Changes Ahead

We've definitely been enjoying some excellent weather in West Alabama lately. That all is soon to change. Wednesday will be the last dry day this week.

Wednesday you can expect a high of 80*F, with an overnight low of 53*F.

Thursday, a cold front begins to make its way into Alabama. The day should start off relatively sunny; however, clouds will begin to make their way into town ahead of the impending cold front. Showers should begin in the afternoon around 4pm and last (hit and miss) through 9am Friday morning. Not expecting anything severe, but that's not to say you won't hear a rumble or two of thunder.

Friday, expect chilly conditions fed by a decent northerly breeze. At this point, the cold front will have already made its way through our area. Rain should end in the morning hours. Our best guess is somewhere around 9am. The high on Friday will be 65*F with an overnight low of 38*F. Stay tuned for potential frost advisories, and be prepared to cover your plants.

Saturday will be sunny as we begin another slight warming trend. High of 69*F, low of 37*F. Again, frost advisories could be issued. Plan accordingly.

Sunday continues the warming trend as we expect a high of 70*F, slowly climbing as we top out at 72*F on Wednesday, November 3rd.

HALLOWEEN- We could see some showers here and there, but it shouldn't put a damper on the evening's activities.

Some models are showing a decent weather system to move through on November 4th or 5th bringing good amounts of rain and/or storms. This system will definitely bring brisk, colder air, with the chance of some snow flurries! Still a little far out to be certain, but we'll definitely be monitoring the system as it develops. This could be our first chance of the fall season to activate the Storm Chaser Division, as November and December have proven to be busy months in the weather community for Alabama. Many of us recall the December 16, 2000 tornado that wreaked havoc in the Hillcrest and Taylorville communities in Tuscaloosa County.

THE RUN DOWN: Prep for rain and cooler temps Thursday and Friday. Frost advisories may be issued Thursday and Friday nights. Nice weekend ahead. Rainy start to Halloween. Nice weather following Halloween until Thursday or Friday of next week. Storm Chaser activation may be necessary with this system. Distinctly cooler temps follow system at the end of next week.

To those of you who came out to our Fundraising on the Quad Saturday, thank you so much for your contributions! All of the money donated will go towards our operations in helping the National Weather Service and local EMAs in bettering the advance warning system with the goal of saving lives.

Big Cool Down Ahead!

It's that time of year again. Cool air sweeping down from Canada will cause a major cool down for West Alabama. Long gone will be the days of highs in the mid to upper 80s. Tomorrow will be our last warm day with a high of 88*F, low of 58*F. Tuesday begins the fall of temps with a high of 70*F, low of 42*F. Wednesday thru next Monday (the 24th) will see a gradual warming trend as Wednesday starts off with a high of 62*F topping out on Monday with a high of 77*F. Wednesday and Thursday nights we could experience a frost in West Alabama as lows dip in to the upper 30s. Not really expecting any rain. Some places throughout the state could see a few showers and maybe a thunderstorm or two (typical with any front coming through).

Time to break out the long pants and shirts!
