Today compares to that of an early spring day in the southeast. Tomorrow we'll see similar conditions but clouds will begin to increase ahead of our next rain event.
The high tomorrow is expected to peak around 70*F, with skies becoming increasingly cloudy as the day progresses. Rain will begin to move in to West Alabama tomorrow night into Friday morning. No severe weather is expected.
Hope finals are going well for everyone! We'll bring you an update towards the weekend looking towards next week.

Not Much Change, Dry through Weekend/Middle of Next Week
Not much change in the weather to discuss. But we'll take a look at it anyways!
CURRENT OBSERVATIONS (AS OF 1607)
TEMP: 51*F
WIND: LIGHT AND VARIABLE
SUN SETTING
WEEKEND
We'll see mostly sunny skies tomorrow and Sunday with highs around the mid to upper 50's with overnight lows both nights in the upper 20s to mid 30s.
NEXT WEEK
Monday will be our last chilly day, as Tuesday begins a warming trend through Thursday as highs peak with the next rain system coming in and begin to drop back down. High on Monday will be near 54*F, Low of 36*F. Tuesday's high will be near 63*F, Low near 39*F. Wednesday's high will be near 64*F, Low near 44*F. We'll see partly cloudy skies Monday through Wednesday, as our next rain system will move in to our area on Thursday. We'll bring you more updates Monday, as we'll feel more confident about our timing.
RUNDOWN
Chilly conditions last until Tuesday. Warming up to "nicer" temps Tuesday through Friday. Clear skies until Thursday.
HUNTING FORECAST
On the Solunar tables, today was a great day to hit the woods, but tomorrow is looking equally as good with excellent activity seen from 1039-1339 midday tomorrow. The only issue that I can foresee will be how the wind comes in to play. We're expecting winds from the North around 13mph consistently. Saturday's sunrise will occur around 0642, while setting around 1643.
Sunday will also be a good day to hit the woods, although it doesn't appear to be as eventful as Saturday or today. Excellent activity during legal shooting hours for deer will occur from 1131-1431. Sun will rise around 0643 and set around 1643. The wind won't really be too much of a factor.
I'll be in the woods both days to press my luck. Good hunting to you!

Cold Now, Nice Later On
Yesterday was absolutely miserably cold. No matter if you're a northerner by birth, it was down right cold, and the rain didn't help. Here's what we can expect over the next few days in Tuscaloosa/West Alabama!
CURRENT OBSERVATION
51*F, with a low tonight of 26*F. Sunny with no chance of precipitation. Wind to the NNW @ 8mph ***WATCH FOR FREEZE WARNING OVERNIGHT***
TOMORROW(THURSDAY)
High of 60*F, low of 25*F. Sunny with no chance of precipitation. Wind to the ESE @ ~3mph. ***WATCH FOR FREEZE WARNING OVERNIGHT***
FRIDAY
High of 61*F, low of 30*F. Sunny with no chance of precipitation. Wind to the NE @ ~4mph ***WATCH FOR FREEZE WARNING OVERNIGHT***
WEEKEND
Mostly cloudy Saturday with a high of 64*F, overnight low of 44*F. Sunday will be partly cloudy with a high of 66*F, overnight low of 51*F.
HUNTER'S FORECAST(NEW ADDITION)
According to the solunar tables, the best day to go hunting this week/weekend will be Thursday and Friday.
Thursday's Excellent Activity- 0330-0630 and 1620-1920
Friday's Excellent Activity- 0412-0712 and 1703-2003
THE HUNTER'S OPINION
I'll be hitting the woods Thursday morning and afternoon as well as Friday morning. Unfortunately for deer hunters, Friday's afternoon excellent time comes around sundown. With this bone chill cold weather, animals should be moving quite a bit in search of food/warmer shelter. Wind should not be too much of a factor on Thurs and Fri.
Now that hunting season is upon us, we'll be bringing you a "Hunter's Forecast" at the end of every update. Hope you enjoy!

Weather Will Be Picking Up This Week
At UAMS, we are currently monitoring the weather system to our west that will directly impact our area in the days to come.
WHAT WE CAN EXPECT TODAY
Highs between 74*F and 79*F. Some showers might pop up here and there due to the high level of moisture in the atmosphere currently.
TOMORROW
High of 79*F with Thunderstorms that could produce isolated Tornadoes. Marginal instability values along with a nice low level jet and bulk wind shear, make for all of the ingredients needed to cause a severe weather event. We expect this system to be reminiscent of last Wednesday's event that caused some minor tornadoes here and there. Though minor, tornadoes are dangerous nonetheless. Keep an eye on weather information throughout the day tomorrow. We expect the system to arrive in West Alabama around 3pm.
***UAMS SCD AND CERT TEAMS WILL BE PLACED ON STANDBY EFFECTIVE AT 1200 TOMORROW.
WEDNESDAY THRU FRIDAY
Temps will be a little cooler behind the cold front stirring things up on Tuesday. Dry and pleasant weather for Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
SATURDAY
***SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER THREAT***
We expect another significant weather event to take place Saturday night. All of the models suggest this will be a very potent system. Though we don't expect anything similar to April 27th, this system is not to be taken lightly. We're still a little ways out, so we'll know more details closer to time. But you will want to take this into consideration when planning travel. Delays at airports in the Southeast could occur.
***UAMS SCD AND CERT TEAMS WILL BE ON STANDBY EFFECTIVE 1200 SATURDAY.***
THE RUNDOWN
Cloudy today, severe weather threat tomorrow (Tuesday), Nice but a little cooler Wednesday-Friday. Saturday, significant severe weather event is expected.

Severe Weather Threat Over for Tuscaloosa
Tuscaloosa found itself under the gun again for severe weather this morning, though it was nothing compared to April 27th. You can expect a significant cool down this afternoon/evening. With highs in the lower-mid 60s for the rest of the week. Warming trends will feed a nice weekend with the high Saturday of 69*F, and Sunday we'll be looking at 75*F, clear skies both days. Warm weather continues through our next rain chance coming Tuesday or Wednesday of next week when we expect isolated thunderstorms.
Auburn University and the Auburn/Opelika Metro area was hit by a tornado within the past hour. Damage reports are streaming in. So far, based off of everything that I have seen, the campus was spared very similar to UA's dodging the April 27th tornado. Some reports of structural damage within the cities of Auburn and Opelika. Please call and check on any loved ones in that area, and pray for their recovery in the days to come. Though the Auburn tornado was no where near the size and strength of the Tuscaloosa tornado, people's lives are still disrupted.

EAS TEST TOMORROW
FROM DR. TIM COLEMAN: There will be a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System tomorrow, November 9, at 1:00 pm CST. It is a test. Repeat, test. Test. Test.
Even though it will interrupt all major TV and radio broadcasts, on every channel, and the screen shot may not say it is a test, it is one. This is a much bigger deal than the monthly EAS tests at midnight, siren tests, and NOAA Weather Radio alert tests on Wednesdays.

Nice Weather Today, Change Tomorrow
What a nice afternoon yesterday. Today you can expect similar conditions with a high of 75*F. Tomorrow brings change. We are currently monitoring a system to our west that has the potential to spin up some tornadoes here and there. However, the system will weaken significantly by the time it makes its way into West Alabama due to lack of support aloft. You can expect some spotty showers tomorrow, but nothing severe. You can expect a high near 70*F tomorrow. Thursday and Friday will be noticeably colder. The highs will barely make it to the mid 50's with a lows in the 30's. Frost advisories may be issued, so plan accordingly. Thursday the skies will be clearing behind the system coming through. Friday you can expect clear skies. A chilly North breeze will blow through here both days. Saturday morning will be cold with another freeze likely, but we warm up slowly over the weekend with a good supply of sunshine Saturday and Sunday. We are expecting mid 60s Saturday, followed by upper 60s Sunday.
Next week you can expect a shower or two Monday or Tuesday with models supporting the best chance of beneficial rain coming Wednesday. There has been some talk within the group of a potential severe weather event next week, but models don't seem to support that thought at this time. As we mover further towards next week, we'll have a better idea of what to expect.
THE RUNDOWN
Nice weather today. Rain tomorrow. Thursday and Friday will be COLD. Frost/Freeze Advisories may be issued Thursday or Friday. Nice weekend on tap. Next week could be wet early on.

Remembering the 27th of April
Six months and eleven minutes ago, one of the fiercest, most destructive tornadoes many eyes have ever witnessed, touched down in Tuscaloosa. Our city continues to rebound since that day, as we have made unprecedented strides towards restoring some sense of normalcy.
TTown will never be down. Our pride, our dedication, our strength, and our people will always see us through.
Following that day, I have never, ever been so proud to call Tuscaloosa my home.
Please continue to pray for all of those in Alabama affected by the overwhelming number of storms that day, as well as our leaders who carry us along the path of rebuilding.

Changes Ahead
We've definitely been enjoying some excellent weather in West Alabama lately. That all is soon to change. Wednesday will be the last dry day this week.
Wednesday you can expect a high of 80*F, with an overnight low of 53*F.
Thursday, a cold front begins to make its way into Alabama. The day should start off relatively sunny; however, clouds will begin to make their way into town ahead of the impending cold front. Showers should begin in the afternoon around 4pm and last (hit and miss) through 9am Friday morning. Not expecting anything severe, but that's not to say you won't hear a rumble or two of thunder.
Friday, expect chilly conditions fed by a decent northerly breeze. At this point, the cold front will have already made its way through our area. Rain should end in the morning hours. Our best guess is somewhere around 9am. The high on Friday will be 65*F with an overnight low of 38*F. Stay tuned for potential frost advisories, and be prepared to cover your plants.
Saturday will be sunny as we begin another slight warming trend. High of 69*F, low of 37*F. Again, frost advisories could be issued. Plan accordingly.
Sunday continues the warming trend as we expect a high of 70*F, slowly climbing as we top out at 72*F on Wednesday, November 3rd.
HALLOWEEN- We could see some showers here and there, but it shouldn't put a damper on the evening's activities.
Some models are showing a decent weather system to move through on November 4th or 5th bringing good amounts of rain and/or storms. This system will definitely bring brisk, colder air, with the chance of some snow flurries! Still a little far out to be certain, but we'll definitely be monitoring the system as it develops. This could be our first chance of the fall season to activate the Storm Chaser Division, as November and December have proven to be busy months in the weather community for Alabama. Many of us recall the December 16, 2000 tornado that wreaked havoc in the Hillcrest and Taylorville communities in Tuscaloosa County.
THE RUN DOWN: Prep for rain and cooler temps Thursday and Friday. Frost advisories may be issued Thursday and Friday nights. Nice weekend ahead. Rainy start to Halloween. Nice weather following Halloween until Thursday or Friday of next week. Storm Chaser activation may be necessary with this system. Distinctly cooler temps follow system at the end of next week.
To those of you who came out to our Fundraising on the Quad Saturday, thank you so much for your contributions! All of the money donated will go towards our operations in helping the National Weather Service and local EMAs in bettering the advance warning system with the goal of saving lives.

Big Cool Down Ahead!
It's that time of year again. Cool air sweeping down from Canada will cause a major cool down for West Alabama. Long gone will be the days of highs in the mid to upper 80s. Tomorrow will be our last warm day with a high of 88*F, low of 58*F. Tuesday begins the fall of temps with a high of 70*F, low of 42*F. Wednesday thru next Monday (the 24th) will see a gradual warming trend as Wednesday starts off with a high of 62*F topping out on Monday with a high of 77*F. Wednesday and Thursday nights we could experience a frost in West Alabama as lows dip in to the upper 30s. Not really expecting any rain. Some places throughout the state could see a few showers and maybe a thunderstorm or two (typical with any front coming through).

Severe Weather Potential Tonight and Tomorrow
Heads up, West Alabama. Tonight as a front pushes through, we can expect some thunderstorms within a squall line. This line isn't expected until later tonight. However, the NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a Tornado Watch to our west including much of Mississippi, Tennessee, and parts of Arkansas. Severe storms require instability to be present in the atmosphere. Instability is caused by warm air masses usually fed by daytime heating. Because the storms are expected to roll through tonight, we lose a lot of the day time heating by the time the storms arrive; therefore, the storms will be weaker and less structured. HOWEVER, we will maintain a slight, very slight, risk for severe thunderstorms tonight that are unlikely to produce tornadoes. Tomorrow leads to a different story. Tomorrow we will face a greater possibility of severe weather than this evening. Day time heating will feed the instability, setting the stage for severe weather to develop. The NWS SPC will not issue a watch area until they feel that one is necessary, so do not be surprised if you do not hear of a watch until tomorrow morning/midday.
We will be monitoring the system throughout the evening tonight and day tomorrow, and will keep you updated as weather unfolds. If you would like to join our email alert system, please email us at bamauams@gmail.com and tell us you'd like updates. We currently email 115+ people as weather occurs.

Rain, Rain, Rain, Oh and More Rain...
If you look out your window this morning, you'll notice what I'm talking about. Rain. As the song goes, "Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey, whiskey makes my ....". Is rain really a good "thang"? Normally, I would agree, but given the current soil saturation and our minimal rain deficit for the year, I'm going with a negative. Local flooding is possible today thru Thursday with the extensive amounts of consistent rain and completely saturated soil. Use Extreme Caution when traveling, as water is already puddling on roadways in Tuscaloosa. Here's what you can expect for the rest of the week!
TODAY
Currently 68*F, Rain. Wind ESE at 5MPH.
Rain will be wrapping up here within the hour, then we'll have a break until about 5pm this evening, when scattered Thunderstorms enter the area. They'll last most of the night. Not expecting anything severe.
REST OF THE WEEK

TS Lee And What it Means for us...
Ladies and Gentlemen, the first gulf tropical storm is impending landfall at this hour. The NWS is expecting storm surge of 3-5 feet above normal along the Louisiana Gulf Coast. There is also a great risk of rip currents, so be advised.
WEST ALABAMA
With Lee set to make landfall within the next hour or so, we can expect heavy rains, gusty winds, and a chance of tornadoes beginning tomorrow afternoon. The NWS in Birmingham has placed much of Central and West Alabama under a Flash Flood watch until Tuesday the 6th. A Flash Flood watch means that conditions will be favorable during the watch period for fast rising waters that could threaten life and property. Remember: Turn around, Don't drown. Many flood deaths come from motorists who press their luck and attempt to drive through flood areas. Don't become a statistic.
Tornado threat: After viewing Dr. Greg Forbes' TOR:CON Index, we have been placed between a Low and Moderate risk for tornadoes for Sunday, and at a definite Moderate risk for Monday. Often times with tropical storms and hurricanes, spin-off tornadoes become a threat following landfall. Be sure to keep an eye on the weather throughout the next few days.
UA Students: Fortunately, the University is closed Monday in observance of Labor Day, so you won't have to worry about trudging to class in the rain. However, make certain that you have access to current, up to date weather information. If you didn't come see us at Get On Board day and would like to join our E-Mail list for severe weather updates pertaining to campus, visit us at our Home Site. Fill out the contact form and explain that you would like to be notified whenever weather threatens our area, and we'll add you to the list.
UAMS Storm Chaser Division Activation may be required tomorrow afternoon. We are currently monitoring the weather situation and will do so throughout the overnight hours and will keep you up to date.

Stormy End of the Day
Currently we are monitoring a cell over the Birmingham Metro. The storm should be easing into Tuscaloosa within the hour. With this cell you can expect strong winds, heavy rain, and vivid lightning. Remember: if you're close enough to hear thunder, you're close enough to be struck by lightning.
For the rest of the week, you can expect similar scenarios(early afternoon scattered showers and thunderstorms) every day.
Stay tuned for more details as the weather event unfolds.

As the upper ridge weakens next week, we'll be faced with greater chances of storms as well as a cooling trends as highs should only make it to the mid to upper 80s.

Severe Weather in Tuscaloosa County
Tuscaloosa County is currently experiencing very severe weather. Conditions include heavy rainfall, high winds, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. Please do not go outside or drive until this weather condition has passed. If you must drive, please turn on your hazard lights as visibility can diminish rapidly.
This storm is moving slowly from the Northeast. Several new storms are popping up across the map so please pay attention to your current location and take proper precaution. UAMS advises that you stay inside of an enclosed structure until the storms have passed. If you can hear thunder, then you CAN be struck by lightning. Stay safe and let's hope that this helps break the Heat Wave.

Today was a bust...
Well, today was definitely a bust. We only experienced rain and thunder, nothing too extreme.
For the rest of the week, we'll be looking at mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid 90s starting tomorrow and working its way up to the upper 90s by week's end.
Make sure you stay hydrated, and take breaks from the heat!
Until Mother Nature rears her ugly head again...

Severe Weather Possibility Tuesday
West Alabama finds itself in the slight risk category issued by the National Weather Service for Tuesday. See the image below (DAY 2 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK/PROBABILISTIC OUTLOOK)
WHAT WE CAN EXPECT...
Strong, damaging winds in the afternoon, and occasional hail. Very small chance of tornadoes forming.
SYNOPSIS
All of the atmospheric players will be in place to produce a severe weather event. Now, that's not to say it will be anything like April 27th. As the cold front sets to come through tomorrow afternoon, storms will begin to fire just ahead of the front. These storms will most likely produce damaging winds, spotty hail, and locally heavy rainfall. Keep an eye out on the weather tomorrow as it is likely that Severe Thunderstorm Warnings will be issued as necessary, and maybe even Flash Flood Warnings depending on how much rain this system produces.
We will continue to monitor the weather situation and bring you updates as they become available.
